Benin City, Nigeria — The Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, in connection with the suspected murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Festus Edogiaweria.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the investigation began after the deceased’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, reported to the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25, 2025, that her daughter had gone missing for five days after leaving home with a friend.
The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, where detectives employed a combination of traditional intelligence and technical analysis to trace the suspect.
Osaigbovo was arrested on June 18, 2025, in the Iyanomon community of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. During interrogation, he admitted to inviting Osato to his residence on April 27, 2025, where a disagreement allegedly led to her accidental death after she fell and hit her head.
In a bid to conceal the incident, the suspect reportedly transported the body using a wheelbarrow and buried it in a shallow grave near his home. On June 20, 2025, he guided investigators to the burial site, where the remains wereexhumed in the presence of relevant authorities.
CSP Yamu confirmed that charges will be filed upon completion of the ongoing investigation.
The Edo State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to combating all forms of criminality and ensuring justice for victims and their families.
