Man Arrested in Edo Over Girlfriend’s Alleged Murder

Benin City, NigeriaThe Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 31-year-old Joshua Osaigbovo in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old Osato Festus Edogiaweria.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the incident was first reported on April 25, 2025, by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, at the Aduwawa Police Division. She informed authorities that her daughter had left home five days earlier with a friend and had since remained unreachable.

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, where detectives commenced a comprehensive inquiry utilizing both conventional and technological methods.

The investigation culminated in the arrest of the suspect on June 18, 2025, in Iyanomon Community, located in the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.

During questioning, Osaigbovo admitted to inviting the deceased to his residence on April 27, 2025, where a disagreement reportedly escalated. He claimed Osato fell during the altercation, fatally hitting her head on the ground. Rather than report the incident, the suspect allegedly attempted to conceal the act by placing her body in a wheelbarrow and burying it in a shallow grave near his home.

On June 20, 2025, he led investigators to the site, where the remains of the young woman were recovered under the supervision of appropriate authorities.

CSP Yamu disclosed that Osaigbovo will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

The Edo State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety, stressing that all perpetrators of violent crimes will be held accountable under the law.
