Libya vs Nigeria: CAF to make decision on cancelled AFCON 2025 qualifier on Wednesday

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, is expected to announce its decision on the botched 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group D between Libya and Nigeria, which was scheduled for Benina Martyrs Stadium on October 15, this Wednesday.

According to Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, CAF will rule on the players’ ordeal during the first leg in Nigeria which ended 1-0 in favour of the Super Eagles and the reverse fixture that was eventually delisted.

The Libyan Football Federation, LFF, has already submitted all the necessary documents to CAF.

Nigeria’s delegation saw their flight diverted to Al Abraq Airport, which is about three hours away by road to Benghazi, the scheduled venue of the match.

They were held them captive for at least 17 hours without food, water and Internet, before they flew back to their home country.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, lodged a complaint with CAF over their ordeal, but the Libyan Federation insisted the Nigerians did not cooperate with them in any way, whether in the first or second leg.
