The Lekki Textile and Garment Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Lagos State is projected to generate approximately 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect employment opportunities upon completion, according to Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).
Dr. Ogunyemi made this known during the disbursement of compensation to seven Eyin-Osa families, who contributed 240.09 acres of land for the Federal Government’s project. Represented by the Director of Zone Operations, Chika Ibekwe, Ogunyemi emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment to attracting foreign direct investment through the Free Trade Zone Scheme while prioritizing the development of host communities. The Lekki Textile and Garment SEZ, he noted, will not only focus on textiles but also serve as hubs for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), agro-industries, and world-class sports and community development centers.
Muftau Shittu, President of the Eyin-Osa United Kingdom Development Association (EUKDA), expressed satisfaction with NEPZA’s efforts to regenerate the Eyin-Osa land, praising the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering economic growth in the region.
