The House of Representatives has approved the 2024 supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), amounting to N98.5 billion. The budget, which passed its second and third readings, was presented by Aliyu Betara, Chairman of the House Committee on FCT.
During the plenary session, Betara referenced the 1999 Constitution, noting that a communication from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the FCT supplementary budget was read at the plenary on May 16, 2024. The communication sought approval for the supplementary budget to the FCT 2024 Statutory Appropriation Act, totaling N98.5 billion.
Betara explained that the budget aims to utilize additional inflows from the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue to address critical infrastructural development within the territory. After scrutinizing the President’s presentation, the committee concluded that the funds were essential for developing key infrastructure in the Federal Capital.
The House subsequently adopted the committee’s report on the bill, authorizing the statutory revenue fund of the FCTA account to the sum of N98.5 billion.
