LAUTECH Clinical Lecturers Embark on Indefinite Strike

Ogbomoso, Nigeria  —  Clinical lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have commenced an indefinite strike, protesting the continued non-payment of their salaries under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Ruth Ilori (Chairman) and Dr. Abraham Akinbola (Secretary), the lecturers condemned the ongoing salary shortfall, describing it as unjust, discriminatory, and unacceptable.

The strike action follows the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Southwest Zone, which had demanded full implementation of the CONMESS salary structure for clinical lecturers.

Expressing their frustration, the lecturers highlighted that universities in the southwest remain among the few yet to adopt the salary structure, a situation they argue has exacerbated brain drain and hindered medical education in the region.

They urged relevant authorities to urgently address their concerns, warning that continued inaction could further destabilize Nigeria’s medical education sector.
