Lagos, Nigeria: The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has claimed top honors at the 2025 Lagos Campus Beach Soccer Tournament, emerging as overall champions after accumulating the highest points across their fixtures.
The atmosphere was electric on Saturday, July 26, as sports fans gathered in large numbers at Atican Beach, Lekki, to witness the inaugural edition of the tournament. The event featured high-energy matches, vibrant music by DJ Bright, and a spirited display of campus football talent.
LASUED opened their campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over Lagos City Polytechnic and later secured a goalless draw against the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in a tightly contested final match. Their performance showcased tactical discipline and resilience, ultimately earning them the gold medal.
UNILAG, renowned for its sporting pedigree, delivered a strong showing but settled for silver following consecutive draws against LASUED and Lagos City Polytechnic. The latter took home bronze after an impressive outing, marking their best-ever result in a tertiary-level sports competition.
The tournament was officially declared open by Adebanji Atewogboye, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to fostering sports at the grassroots level.
“This initiative aligns with the administration’s vision of using sports as a tool for youth empowerment and community development,” said Atewogboye.
Bamidele Adeleye, Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success. He revealed that plans are underway to broaden the scope of the 2026 edition by inviting institutions from other states.
Jointly organised by the Lagos State Government and BrandEscort Communications, the Lagos Campus Beach Soccer Tournament is the first of its kind in Nigeria. It aims to discover and nurture emerging football talent from tertiary institutions within and beyond Lagos State.
