LASTMA saves two pedestrians struck by a drunk driver in Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) recently rescued two injured pedestrians who were hit by a drunk driver while crossing the expressway with their luggage.

The incident occurred near Mayfair Garden, heading towards the Epe area of Lagos. The accident involved a Toyota Camry and a commercial LT Bus, resulting in severe fractures to the legs and arms of the pedestrians.

Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the Toyota Camry lost control of the vehicle due to being under the influence of alcohol, leading to the collision with the pedestrians. The driver continued speeding after the initial collision, eventually crashing into a commercial LT bus at a nearby bus stop.

The injured pedestrians were promptly transported to Akodo General Hospital, and the Toyota Camry driver was arrested by the LASTMA monitoring team and handed over to officers from the Elemoro Police Station.

The vehicles involved were quickly removed from the expressway by LASTMA personnel to ensure the free flow of traffic towards Epe. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, expressed sympathy for the victims and stressed the importance of road safety.

He urged all motorists, especially commercial bus drivers, to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
