Lagos Mobile Court Prosecutes 58 Drivers For Traffic Offenses

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has set up a mobile court in Abuja to prosecute traffic offenders, especially drivers who engage in overloading.

The FRSC’s Zonal Commanding Officer for the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, Assistant Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, said that a special operation is being carried out to address the irresponsible behavior of commercial drivers.

Mr. Mohammed stated that the FRSC is committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens on the road, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The operation is aimed at reducing the number of accidents and deaths on Nigerian roads.

Mr. Mohammed, the Zonal Commanding Officer of the FRSC, appealed to road users to obey traffic rules and regulations, as offenders would be prosecuted by the mobile court, regardless of their status. He stressed that the FRSC would continue to take firm action to curb the problem.

Mr. Muta’a Chorrie, the FCT Sector Commander, added that over 200 vehicles have been impounded since the start of the special operation. He said that the special operation was aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists and other road users in the FCT.

Mr. Chorrie urged motorists to desist from dangerous driving practices such as speeding, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, drink driving, and driving under the influence of drugs. He added that the FRSC will continue to educate the public on the importance of obeying traffic laws and regulations, and will enforce the laws in a fair and just manner.

He called on the public to report any incidence of road traffic violations to the FRSC for prompt action. He also urged members of the public to use the FRSC emergency number 122 for assistance in case of an accident or other road-related emergencies.

Mr. Chorrie appealed to the residents of the FCT to cooperate with the FRSC in ensuring that traffic is managed effectively during the Ember months and beyond. He said that the FRSC has deployed adequate personnel and logistics to all identified routes to ensure that traffic is managed effectively.

He also reassured the public that the FRSC will continue to work hard to ensure the safety of all road users. He advised the public to obey traffic rules and regulations, and to drive responsibly, especially during the Ember months, when there is an increase in traffic.
