Nigeria _ A Lagos Special Offences Court has rejected an application by Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), challenging the court’s jurisdiction over his case.
Justice Rahman Oshodi dismissed the application, stating that the prosecution had established territorial jurisdiction over counts eight to 26. Emefiele faces 26 counts brought by the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing him of misusing his office, resulting in losses of $4.5 billion and 2.8 billion naira. The court struck out counts one to four, relating to abuse of office, as the alleged conduct is not defined as an offense in any written law.
