The Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives has expressed strong disapproval of the recent Edo State governorship election, claiming it failed to reflect the true will of the people.
Led by the Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinobi, the caucus pointed out that Olumide Akpata, a respected legal professional, had garnered widespread public support, but the outcome of the election did not reflect the electorate’s choice. According to Ozodinobi, the Labour Party enjoys significant popularity in Edo State, a sentiment that was evident during the 2023 Presidential election.
The group raised concerns about several electoral malpractices, including vote buying and voter intimidation, which they argue compromised the integrity of the election.
Despite their disappointment with the current results, the caucus expressed confidence in their prospects for future elections, stating that the Labour Party is poised for success in the 2027 general election, as Nigerians remain determined to secure the party’s victory.
