Kwara publishes timetable for local government elections

Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) has released the timetable for the local council polls scheduled for September 21, 2024, in the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to the chairman of the commission, Muhammed Baba Okanla, a meeting/interface with all registered political parties’ leadership will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, followed by political parties’ primaries elections from Monday, June 24 to 30, 2024.

Political parties are required to obtain and return nomination forms for chairmanship and councilorship elections (KWSIEC 01 and KWSIEC 02) from July 1 to 5, 2024, with verification of candidates’ credentials scheduled for July 8 to 19, 2024.

The display of names of candidates nominated by political parties will be posted on the KWSIEC notice board from July 22 to 26, 2024.

Training of ad-hoc staff in all three senatorial districts will take place from July 27 to 31, 2024. The last day for the withdrawal of candidates (if needed) is set for August 5, 2024, while the last day for the publication of the list of nominated candidates is Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Campaigns by political parties will commence on August 19, 2024, and end at midnight on September 19, 2024, with elections for chairmanship and councilorship positions scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The collection of Certificate of Returns will take place on Monday, September 23, 2024.
