Kwara Installs the Tallest Flagpole in West Africa

Ilorin, NigeriaThe Kwara State Government has unveiled a monumental 70-metre flagpole, the tallest in West Africa, as a bold expression of cultural pride and economic ambition.

This development was announced by the Kwara State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, in a statement highlighting the flagpole as more than a symbolic gesture—it is a visual representation of Kwara’s evolving identity.

“Flagpoles are emblematic of national unity and pride,” Olododo stated. “But for Kwara, this structure stands as a cultural compass and economic stimulant. It reflects our rich heritage and the unity within our ethnically diverse population.”

Olododo explained that the landmark underscores Kwara’s transformation from a traditionally civil service-driven economy into an emerging hub for innovation, creative industries, tourism, and agribusiness.

“This is a state where tradition coexists with innovation,” he added. “The flagpole mirrors our aspirations, as it rises high to inspire growth and shared progress.”

From an economic standpoint, the Commissioner emphasized that the towering structure is expected to attract visitors, drive local commerce, and stimulate infrastructural development. “This flagpole serves as a magnet for tourism and investment. Its presence brings visibility to our state’s dynamic potential and generates a ripple effect of economic benefits,” he said.

He also pointed to ongoing investments in infrastructure such as an innovation hub, international conference centre, visual arts centre, and film factory as evidence of Kwara’s commitment to sustainable growth.

Olododo concluded by urging citizens to see the flagpole as a call to action—a reminder of their role in building a prosperous, unified, and forward-looking state.

“As the flag waves above us, it invites all Kwarans to reflect on our shared destiny, celebrate our collective progress, and continue shaping a resilient and inclusive future,” he said.
