In a gesture aimed at enhancing the welfare of judges in the Kwara State High Court, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq marked this year’s Workers’ Day by presenting 11 top-tier Toyota Fortuner Jeeps to judges. Additionally, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Abiodun Adebara, received a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser for official use, highlighting the administration’s commitment to ensuring the comfort and efficacy of judges in their service to the state and nation.
During the formal handover ceremony held at the State High Court in Ilorin, Justice Adebara revealed that earlier in February, five Toyota Fortuner Jeeps were allocated to five High Court Judges from funds allocated in the 2023 state budget. He stressed that procuring a new vehicle is a prerequisite for appointing a new judge, as mandated by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Expressing gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his responsiveness to the judiciary’s needs, Justice Adebara commended the swift approval and release of funds for vehicle procurement in the 2024 budget. He noted that the last time judges received vehicles from the state government was eight years ago, excluding those appointed in 2020, and praised the governor’s commitment to the judiciary’s well-being.
Highlighting the practical significance of the new vehicles, Justice Adebara emphasized their role in enhancing judicial efficiency and upholding the dignity of the judicial office, particularly for judges serving outside Ilorin. He lauded the governor for prioritizing the judiciary’s needs amid competing demands in the state, expressing optimism that remaining judges awaiting vehicles would soon receive them.
