Kwara Earmarks ₦5 Billion for Primary Healthcare Upgrade

Ilorin, Nigeria  —  The Kwara State Government has committed ₦5 billion to revamp 70 Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across its three senatorial districts, reinforcing its dedication to improved healthcare delivery.

The announcement was made by Professor Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWHCDA), during the contract signing ceremony in Ilorin.

Highlighting the scope of the intervention, Professor Elelu stated that the project will encompass infrastructural upgrades, solar power installation, provision of staff quarters, potable water supply, and the procurement of ultra-modern medical equipment for the selected facilities.

She noted that the initiative is part of the World Bank-supported Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Progress and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project, aimed at strengthening healthcare at the grassroots level.

“This upgrade will enhance service delivery at the primary healthcare level, ensuring that these centers remain the first point of contact within the national health system,” she emphasized.

Dr. Michael Oguntoye, Programme Manager of the IMPACT project, reaffirmed that the contracts must be completed within *three months, cautioning against any delays in execution. He underscored that this initiative is one of several interventions designed to combat maternal and child morbidity and mortality across Kwara State.

The statement concluded with a firm commitment from the state government to sustaining healthcare advancements, ensuring quality medical services for all citizens.
