Kwara Deploys Army, Guards to Battle Forest Kidnappers

Ilorin, NigeriaThe Kwara State Government has announced the launch of coordinated security operations involving the Nigerian Army and newly trained forest guards to tackle criminal hideouts in forest areas across Kwara North and South.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, following a high-level meeting with stakeholders from the Lafiagi axis of Edu LGA.

According to Ajakaye, the operations are aimed at flushing out criminal gangs responsible for kidnappings and other violent crimes in affected communities. He noted that the security action follows collaborative efforts between the state and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

“The Army is set to commence sustained operations in forest zones identified as strongholds of criminal syndicates,” the statement read. “The involvement of forest guards is a major step toward securing isolated communities and preventing further attacks.”

Governor AbdulRazaq, during the meeting held in Ilorin with the leadership of the Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU) led by Dr. Abdullahi Lafiagi, reassured community leaders of the government’s commitment to restoring peace.

He emphasized a multi-stakeholder approach to addressing the insecurity, particularly in Edu, Ifelodun, and Patigi local government areas, and acknowledged the genuine fears of residents.

“No one can dismiss the concerns of our people,” Ajakaye stated. “However, security interventions must be carefully planned and executed for lasting impact. The government remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property.”

The statement concluded by reaffirming the administration’s resolve to work with national security agencies to eliminate threats and restore calm across troubled areas.
