Gunmen held members of Omgbotuche Ayi Yala Worldwide, AYWI, hostage during a meeting in Calabar, where they abducted Dr. Roland Ipuole, a lecturer from the University of Calabar’s Law Faculty.
Additionally, two other individuals were taken, along with mobile phones and other valuables. One of the abducted persons, Dominic Ogri, was released on Wednesday, but Dr. Ipuole remains captive with no known motive for his abduction.
The incident took place at Harry D Hub along Ndidem Usang Iso Road in Calabar, with sources reporting that the officers were held for over 30 minutes without intervention from security agencies.
The Edebia Sons and Daughters group in Calabar has urged the state government to assist in the swift rescue of Dr. Ipuole.
Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Irene Ugbo, has confirmed the abduction.
