Manchester, Nigeria: Kevin De Bruyne has completed a move to Serie A champions Napoli, concluding a highly successful decade at Manchester City.
The 33-year-old midfielder joins the Italian side on a free transfer and will reunite with newly appointed manager Antonio Conte, with whom he previously crossed paths in the Premier League during Conte’s time at Chelsea and Tottenham.
Napoli secured a major signing in De Bruyne, who reportedly declined a lucrative offer from MLS club Chicago Fire in favour of continuing to compete at the highest level in European football. The Belgian international is expected to play a key role in Napoli’s return to the UEFA Champions League next season.
The club announced his arrival with a visually striking post on social platform X, featuring a digitally rendered image of De Bruyne sitting on a throne, crowned as “King Kev,” signaling the significance of his arrival.
During his time at Manchester City, De Bruyne became one of the most influential figures in the club’s history, winning 19 major honours since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2015. His departure marks the end of an era at the Etihad Stadium but begins a new chapter in Naples, where high expectations await him as he aims to leave a similar legacy in Italian football.
