Lagos, Nigeria— Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes extended their dominance at the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, clinching top honors in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Kenya’s Edwin Kibet emerged victorious in the men’s 42km race, completing the marathon in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 6 seconds to claim the prestigious $50,000 prize. This victory marks his second title, having first won in 2023.
Kibet, who secured third place in last year’s edition behind compatriots Bernard Sang and Geoffrey Cheprot, showcased remarkable improvement to reclaim the top spot in this year’s competition.
In the women’s category, Guta Meseret Hirpa of Ethiopia clinched her maiden Lagos City Marathon title, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 4 seconds.
The annual Lagos City Marathon continues to attract elite long-distance runners from around the world, with East African athletes maintaining their firm grip on the competition.
