Kebbi Police Deny Keeping Rescued Children in Orphanage

Kebbi, Nigeria — The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed as false and mischievous a social media report alleging that Christian children rescued from kidnappers were kept in a Muslim-based orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.

In a statement issued on Saturday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the command described the publication as baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the police.

He said, “The false report, allegedly authored by a corps member, claimed that a four-year-old boy named Uzochukwu was found in an orphanage, where he allegedly revealed that policemen had arrested his kidnappers, charged them to court, and subsequently kept him and other Christian children in the facility.

“The command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as a mischievous narrative calculated to undermine the integrity, unwavering commitment and professionalism of officers in their relentless efforts of combating crimes and criminality in Kebbi State.”

The police appealed to members of the public to disregard the rumour, warning individuals and groups spreading such unfounded claims to desist from acts capable of causing disaffection and mistrust in society.

Abubakar further assured all that the command remains committed to working with credible media professionals in sensitising the public on police activities and combating the spread of fake news in the state.
