Katsina Youths Protest Backing Iran Amid Israel Conflict

Katsina, NigeriaAmid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, a group of youths staged a public demonstration in Katsina on Sunday, voicing support for Iran in the ongoing Middle East crisis.

The protest, captured in a video posted by social media user Oyindamola (@dammiedammie35), showed demonstrators waving Iranian flags and holding solidarity banners as they marched through a major street in the northern Nigerian city. Chants backing Iran echoed throughout the procession, drawing attention to the regional conflict.

The protest occurred against the backdrop of an intensifying standoff between Iran and Israel that escalated dramatically in April 2025. The conflict reached a critical stage when Iran launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus, Syria — an incident that killed several senior members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Israel responded by targeting Iranian military infrastructure, prompting global fears of a broader regional war involving key international players, including the U.S., Gulf nations, and allied militant groups.

Though the direct exchanges have subsided, both countries remain locked in ongoing cyber and intelligence warfare, even as global leaders urge restraint and de-escalation.

Nigeria, which maintains diplomatic relations with both Iran and Israel and has a significant Muslim population, has remained neutral throughout the conflict.

As of press time, it was unclear whether the Katsina protest was organized by a formal group or occurred spontaneously. Authorities have not released a statement, and no incidents of violence or arrests have been reported.
