Kano, Nigeria — Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf has launched a 36-member taskforce to drive voter registration, aiming to increase the state’s registered voters from five million to 10 million by the end of the current continuous voter registration exercise.
The taskforce, chaired by Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs Comrade Abdullahi Waiya, was inaugurated with a call for massive citizen mobilization to ensure all eligible voters obtain their voter cards, essential for exercising their civic rights.
Governor Yusuf, speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Farouk Umar, emphasized fairness and inclusivity, stressing that no citizen should be denied registration regardless of background or religion.
The government reaffirmed its full support for the initiative, recognizing voter registration as crucial to democratic participation and leadership accountability in Nigeria’s most populous state.
