The Kano State Police Command has recovered 126 stolen mobile phones and arrested 26 suspects in connection with phone thefts and robberies. The arrests and recoveries occurred between September 1 and September 12, 2024, as part of efforts to combat mobile phone crime in the state.

Police spokesperson Haruna Kiyawa reported that the operations were conducted under the directive of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who instructed all police commands to enhance their presence in public areas to counter criminal activities.

Following these directives, Kano State Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba organized a strategic meeting with all tactical units, focusing on dismantling mobile phone theft, armed robbery, and related criminal activities.

The series of targeted operations resulted in the apprehension of 26 suspected phone thieves and the recovery of 126 stolen phones. In addition, police recovered various items, including 21 port-wine injections, 20 sachets of diazepam tablets, 600 exol tablets, three parcels of suspected Indian hemp, two cutlasses, two scissors, one long sword, and two laptops.

Kiyawa indicated that the recovered phones will be returned to their owners following proper identification and verification. He also urged the public to support ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the state. The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged in court upon completion of the inquiry.
