Kano Police on High Alert for Planned Protest, NSCDC Deploys 3,400 Personnel

Kano, Nigeria

The Kano State Police Command has convened a strategic meeting with security agencies to ensure safety and order during the planned nationwide protest on August 1.

According to a statement by the command’s public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the meeting aimed to prevent any disruption of law and order, amid credible intelligence indicating that adversaries might exploit the protest.

The Police Command praised those who have decided to withdraw from the protest and urged law-abiding citizens to remain patriotic and avoid participating in any demonstration.

The Command issued a stern warning against any acts of violence, vandalism, or disruption of public peace and called on protest organizers to provide necessary information to ensure a peaceful and orderly demonstration.

In case of emergencies, the public has been provided with contact numbers for the Kano Police Command.

In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has deployed 3,400 personnel to maintain peace and security during the protests.

Corps Commandant Mohammad Lawal Falala confirmed the deployment, stating that the personnel would ensure security before, during, and after the protests.

“The command has put measures in place to enable residents to participate in the protest without threats to lives and property, working closely with other security agencies to ensure a crisis-free protest,” he said.

An operational order has been issued to secure public buildings, markets, banks, churches, mosques, recreation centers, and motor parks across the 44 local government areas.

Falala assured residents of their safety and warned that any acts capable of causing confusion during the protest would not be tolerated. Those who disobey orders would be arrested and prosecuted.
