Kano govt reaffirms commitment to welfare of boarding students

Kano state,Nigeria: The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to the well-being of boarding school students by bolstering its school feeding program across 39 public institutions

During a strategic review meeting with school principals and food contractors, State Commissioner for Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda announced an 82% increase in the school feeding budget, aimed at enhancing the quality and quantity of meals served to students.

Dr. Makoda emphasized the administration’s commitment to students’ well-being, acknowledging the crucial role nutrition plays in academic performance and overall development. He assured contractors of prompt payments and government backing to ensure uninterrupted food delivery. The meeting reviewed the 2023/2024 academic year’s feeding performance and gathered input for the implementation of the third term of 2024/2025.

Contractors praised the government’s consistent funding, pledging to maintain high standards in food quality and delivery. Principals of the boarding schools commended the government for aligning the second-term vacation with the start of Ramadan, describing the gesture as thoughtful and sensitive to students’ religious practices. The government’s renewed focus on student nutrition is seen as a key step in fostering academic excellence and well-being in Kano’s public schools.
