Kano Government Issues Public Apology to NSA Nuhu Ribadu Amid Emirate Crisis Allegations

The Kano State Government has publicly apologized to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, following accusations of his involvement in the ongoing emirate council crisis.

Deputy Governor Alhaji Abdulsalam Gwarzo extended the apology on behalf of the state during a press briefing at the Kano Government House.

The crisis erupted following the Kano State House of Assembly’s amendment of the Emirate Act, which dissolved the five emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II by reverting the institution to a single emirate.

Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Dan’agundi, challenged this decision in the Federal High Court. Justice Liman issued an ex-parte order restraining the Kano State Government from reinstating Emir Sanusi II.

In a dramatic turn of events, the deposed emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, was reportedly smuggled into the city early Saturday and housed at the Nassarawa Emir Palace, allegedly to reclaim his former throne and oust Sanusi.

During a press briefing at the Emir’s Palace, Deputy Governor Abdulsalam accused NSA Ribadu of orchestrating Bayero’s return, claiming that Ribadu had arranged for two aircraft to facilitate Bayero’s secret arrival.

Ribadu, denying any involvement, demanded a public apology from the Deputy Governor, threatening legal action if not retracted.

Responding to Ribadu’s denial, Deputy Governor Abdulsalam publicly apologized, acknowledging that the government had been misled into believing Ribadu was responsible for the crisis. “We apologize to the National Security Adviser, his person, and office for any embarrassment and inconveniences this might have caused him,” stated Abdulsalam.

He further expressed shock at Ribadu’s alleged involvement, given Ribadu’s reputation. “Knowing his pedigree, Mr. Ribadu would never deny such involvement if it were true,” Abdulsalam noted.

Admitting to human error, Abdulsalam assured Ribadu of the state’s continued support and cooperation. “On behalf of myself and the Governor of Kano State, we assure the NSA of our unwavering support in his duties.”

The Deputy Governor also remarked on the surprising and escalating nature of the emirate tussle.
