Kano, Nigeria— The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that five lives were lost and properties worth ₦273.7 million were destroyed in multiple fire incidents across the state in May 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi. According to the statement, the Service responded to a total of 71 emergency situations last month, which included 55 fire outbreaks, 9 rescue operations, and 7 false alarms.
Despite the tragic losses, the agency reported that it was able to save properties estimated at ₦446.6 million and successfully rescued five individuals from emergency situations.
The Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to be extra cautious, especially as the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations approach.
“I want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidences, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah festival,” Anas appealed.
Motorists were also advised to adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent road accidents that could hinder the agency’s emergency response efforts.
The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and called on the public to remain vigilant and safety-conscious.
