Kano, Nigeria — The Censorship Board in Kano has ramped up its efforts to minimise the dissemination of indecent and immoral content on social media platforms, particularly targeting youth.

The board apprehended four individuals allegedly using social media platform – TikTok to post content of offensive and immoral value toward society.

The alleged offenders were identified as Hafsa Hamisu (aka Zoom Zoom), Usman Majidadi (Majidadi), Sumayya Muhammad (Summy Beby), and Usman Ibrahim (Maikalar Kudi). They were arrested for violating the board’s statutes for content posted on the public social media platform.

According to the Executive Chairman, of the Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, the arrests were part of a larger objective to increase the levels of decency and discipline across social media disparaging content targeted toward and directed at young people.

The suspects were charged before the court, and the court heard from prosecution counsel, Barrister Garzali Maigari Bichi as he read the charges against the four individuals, all of whom appeared to plead guilty to the charges against them.
