Edited by Afolabi Hannah

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has clarified that controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, was not involved in the release of the schoolchildren abducted in Kuriga area of the state.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Sani stated that while Gumi had offered to negotiate with the bandits for the students’ release, he was not directly involved in the operation.

The abduction of 137 schoolchildren from Chikun Local Government Area on March 7, 2024, had sparked widespread concern. However, in a recent development, the governor announced the successful rescue of the abducted pupils from Zamfara State.

Governor Sani also refuted claims that ransom was paid to secure the release of the students, dismissing such speculations as unfounded. He emphasized the crucial role played by the Armed Forces in the operation and reiterated that Sheikh Gumi was not part of the rescue efforts.
