The Kaduna State House of Assembly’s Ad Hoc Committee has released a report scrutinizing the financial practices, loan acquisitions, and contract awards during the tenure of former Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.
The committee’s findings reveal that numerous loans secured under El-Rufai’s administration were misappropriated and that due process was frequently bypassed.
Evidence presented by the committee indicates widespread corruption across various government entities, including ministries, departments, and agencies, from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.
The committee recommended that the Kaduna State government instruct the Internal Revenue Service to withdraw the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account held with Zenith Bank, which was used as collateral for a NGN20 billion guarantee in 2023. The bank should refund all monies deducted due to this illegal guarantee and any accrued interest.
Additionally, the committee called for the immediate suspension of Kaduna State’s Commissioner of Finance, Shizzer Bada Nasara, and the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board.
A thorough investigation of key appointees from the previous administration by relevant law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies was also advised.
The committee recommended that Muyiwa Adekeye, former Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Governor El-Rufai, be investigated for his role in contracts awarded by the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC).
Kaduna House of Assembly Speaker Yusuf Liman stated that the El-Rufai administration misappropriated a total of NGN423 billion, leaving the state with substantial financial liabilities.
