The Senate has officially declared the Edo Central senatorial seat vacant following the recent election and inauguration of its occupant as governor of Edo State.
Until a few weeks ago, Governor Monday Okpebholo represented Edo Central in the 10th Senate since June, 2023.
The declaration was made on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after a valedictory session held in honour of Okpebholo.
Consequently, the Senate called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacant seat.
Speaking during the session, Akpabio urged the Edo State governor to continue his legacy of good governance as he transitions to his new role.
