JUST IN: Rivers Sole Administrator attends NEC Meeting

Abuja, Nigeria  — The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was in attendance as the National Economic Council (NEC) resumed deliberations in Abuja after a nine-week hiatus.

The high-level policy meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, convened on Thursday at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, drawing participation from governors of the 36 states, key federal ministers, and other economic stakeholders.

In what marks NEC’s first meeting since February 20, the Council is expected to deliberate extensively on issues of national concern, particularly the escalating insecurity and mounting calls for the creation of state police — a matter notably absent from previous discussions.

While the February gathering primarily focused on launching the Nutrition 774 initiative — an ambitious programme targeted at combating malnutrition — the latest session signals a shift toward addressing Nigeria’s pressing security landscape.

The attendance of Rivers State’s Sole Administrator stands out amidst the backdrop of political turbulence and ongoing legal disputes affecting the governance structure in the resource-rich Niger Delta region.

The presence of Mr. Ibas at such a strategic forum underscores the significance of inclusive governance and the NEC’s role in navigating complex national issues.
