The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has joined the ongoing indefinite industrial action initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
In a statement released on Monday, ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke instructed branch chairpersons and zonal coordinators to ensure that university lecturers nationwide participate in the strike, aligning with the union’s affiliation to the Congress.
“The NLC has declared an indefinite strike action starting Monday, June 3, 2024, due to the government’s failure to finalize the renegotiation of the minimum wage for Nigerian workers and reverse the hike in electricity tariffs,” the statement read.
