Abuja, Nigeria — Former President Goodluck Jonathan has praised General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) as a leader deeply committed to Nigeria’s unity and development, highlighting why he remains widely respected across the nation.
Jonathan made these remarks during a visit to IBB’s Hilltop residence to celebrate the former military ruler’s 84th birthday. He described IBB’s home as a hub for consultations and the exchange of ideas aimed at national progress, likening it to the spiritual significance of Mecca.
Jonathan emphasized that IBB is not a sectional leader but a unifying figure whose relationships span all regions of Nigeria. He called for prayers to grant IBB a long life so he can continue mentoring younger generations toward responsible leadership and national service.
The former president acknowledged that while Nigeria has produced many leaders since independence, IBB stands out as a true patriot.
General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who was born on August 17, 1941, served as Nigeria’s head of state from 1985 to 1993.
