Jigawa, Kano Customs Engage Stakeholders on 4% FOB Levy

Kano, NigeriaThe Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has engaged stakeholders in discussions regarding the implementation of the 4% Free On Board (FOB) levy.

The dialogue, led by Area Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, focused on the levy’s reintroduction following its temporary suspension due to the termination of the NCS contract with service providers.

Comptroller Abubakar emphasized that the levy, backed by the NCS Act 2023, plays a critical role in facilitating customs operations and ensuring streamlined stakeholder interactions.

He reassured stakeholders that the direct collection of the levy by the Customs Service, once reinstated, would enhance efficiency and transparency.

While some stakeholders expressed concerns over the financial implications, the NCS maintained that the levy is essential for revenue generation and operational effectiveness.

To address ongoing concerns, the Customs Service pledged to continue engagements with stakeholders, particularly licensed customs agents, who had raised issues over perceived inadequate consultation before the levy’s introduction.

The Kano/Jigawa Customs Command reaffirmed its commitment to a smooth transition in levy collection, ensuring that stakeholders’ perspectives are considered in the process.
