JAMB Schedules Mop-Up, Targets Over 96,000 Candidates

Abuja, NigeriaThe Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fixed Saturday, June 28, 2025, for its mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), aimed at accommodating candidates who missed the earlier tests due to biometric and attendance issues.

In an official statement released on Sunday, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the special examination is designed exclusively for candidates within the 2025 UTME cycle.

A total of 96,838 candidates have been scheduled to take part in the mop-up test across 183 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide. The affected individuals include 5,096 candidates who experienced biometric verification failures during the main UTME and 91,742 candidates who were absent from either the main or rescheduled exams.

“This exercise provides another opportunity for the affected candidates, but it applies strictly to the 2025 UTME,” Dr. Benjamin stated. He further noted that a small number of candidates remain on standby, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into their eligibility.

As part of efforts to uphold the integrity of the examination process, JAMB disclosed that 113 CBT centres have been either suspended or permanently removed from its operations following investigations into misconduct during the mock, main, and rescheduled UTME sittings.

The infractions range from technical manipulation to active involvement in examination malpractice, including impersonation and aiding candidates to cheat.

In addition, JAMB announced that certain towns previously used as exam locations have now been excluded from the mop-up due to high levels of malpractice. Affected candidates will be reassigned to the nearest available CBT centres.

“We are aware this may cause some inconvenience,” the Board noted, “but we appeal for patience and cooperation as we strive to maintain fairness and credibility in our examination system.”
