JAMB Introduces New Novel for 2025 Use of English Exams

Abuja, Nigeria —  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new novel for the Use of English section in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The announcement, made on JAMB’s official X handle on Tuesday, confirmed the adoption of The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba as the prescribed text. This replaces The Life Changer by Khadijat Jalli, which was used in the 2024 UTME.

JAMB revealed that details regarding the registration process for the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry (DE) exercises will be announced soon.

“Attention prospective 2025 UTME candidates! This is to inform you that The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba has been approved as the reading text for the Use of English. Details on the UTME/DE registration shall be released shortly. Kindly be on the lookout for updates,” the post read.

Key Examination Requirements

Each year, over 1.5 million candidates sit for the UTME, which serves as the gateway to Nigerian tertiary institutions. Candidates must pass the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and achieve a minimum score on the computer-based UTME to secure admission.

Although registration for the 2025 UTME has not commenced, JAMB confirmed it is already accrediting registration centres in preparation for the exercise.

The announcement highlights JAMB’s continued efforts to enhance the quality of the examination process and provide candidates with adequate resources for success.
