London, England — Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 in the early Premier League kickoff on Saturday at Stamford Bridge, with Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey featuring for Fulham.
Goals from João Pedro in first-half stoppage time and a penalty converted by captain Enzo Fernández in the 56th minute secured Chelsea’s first league win of the season, temporarily placing them at the top with seven points.
Fulham, now with two points, sit 14th in the table. Bassey played the full 90 minutes, while Iwobi was substituted six minutes before full time.
Fulham initially appeared to score in the 21st minute through Joshua King, but the goal was disallowed by VAR due to a foul in the buildup.
Chelsea’s two goals, both from set pieces, ended a largely cautious contest as the Blues gained momentum in the second half.
