Abuja, Nigeria
The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has launched a specialized curriculum for its foundation program, covering 20 key areas in the first phase of its Skill-Up Artisan (SUPA) initiative.
The curriculum includes training in Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Masonry, Painting and Decoration, Tiling, Electrical Installation, Welding and Fabrication, Carpentry, and Iron Steel Reinforcement, among other skills.
Announcing the development at a news briefing in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) in Abuja, ITF Director-General Dr. Afiz Ogun explained that the curriculum aims to help artisans familiarize themselves with modern practices, tools, and work standards in line with international best practices.
Dr. Ogun noted that over 500 aspiring artisans have already registered under the program, with Plateau State recording the highest number of registrations, representing 10.17 percent of the total.
He highlighted that the collaboration with the CIPMN would help elevate the professional standards and practices of artisans in the country.
Regarding the amended ITF Act of 2011, Dr. Ogun assured that the amendment would not deviate from the agency’s original mandate but would enhance the Act for more effective service delivery.
CIPMN Registrar General, Mr. Henry Mbadiwe, praised the collaboration, stating that it would create wealth for unemployed Nigerians by engaging them in highly skilled, well-regulated, internationally accepted professions, thus lifting them out of poverty.
National Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians, Mr. Adeshina Akinyemi, commended the ITF for its leadership in the training and empowerment of artisans.
