Leverkusen, Germany — Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has expressed his joy after marking his return to action with a goal in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Sunday.
The 24-year-old striker, who had been sidelined since November due to an injury sustained on international duty, found the back of the net in the 15th minute, setting the tone for his team’s win.
Speaking after the match, Boniface described the moment as a significant step in his recovery journey.
“I feel happy, I feel great. It’s been almost two months since I last played, so returning to the pitch and contributing to the team feels amazing,” he told the club’s official website.
Reflecting on his goal, Boniface emphasized the confidence boost it provided both personally and collectively.
“Scoring always feels good, not just as a striker but for the team. Getting an early goal against a strong opponent like Hoffenheim gave us the momentum to push for more,” he noted.
The Nigerian international has now netted seven goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, reinforcing his importance to Xabi Alonso’s title-chasing side.
With his return, Boniface looks set to play a crucial role in Leverkusen’s ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.
