The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) to conduct forensic reviews and analyses of candidates’ credentials ahead of elections.
At the signing event in Abuja, IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, stated that the agreement is aimed at enhancing the credibility and transparency of the electoral process in Nigeria. He noted that the MoU is binding on all 19 registered political parties, as approved by the IPAC General Assembly.
Alhaji Dantalle further explained that the agreement is based on the provisions of Section 29(2&6) of the amended Electoral Act of 2022, emphasizing its importance in ensuring the legitimacy of political candidates.
In his remarks, Dr. Iliyasu Gashinbaki, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIFCFIN, said political parties would now incorporate forensic analysis into their processes. He added that all candidates’ credentials would undergo thorough forensic verification before party primaries.
Additionally, Dr. Gashinbaki pledged that CIFCFIN would provide technical support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help improve the integrity of the electoral value chain.
