Investigation Launched into Cadet’s Death in Umuahia Hotel Swimming Pool

The Abia State Government has pledged to probe the demise of Cadet Emmanuel Onyeomereneche, whose lifeless body was discovered in a Umuahia hotel swimming pool.

During a gathering of over 200 demonstrators at the Government House Umuahia, Navy Commander Macdonald Uba (Rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, assured the protesters from Okwuta – Ibeku of a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.

Expressing condolences to the family and community, the Special Adviser vowed to apprise the Governor of the matter and affirmed the government’s determination to ensure accountability, with perpetrators facing legal consequences.

Commending the demonstrators for their peaceful approach, the Special Adviser urged continued adherence to the law.

Representatives of the Okwuta -Isieke Autonomous Community highlighted concerns over the circumstances leading to the cadet’s death, questioning the plausibility of such a tragedy befalling a trained naval officer in a standard pool. They raised suspicions regarding the involvement of a friend, Valentine Okpechi, and alleged clandestine activities by the hotel management.

The incident, which occurred last week, also resulted in the death of the hotel’s food and beverage manager, James Etubi, reportedly following torture by soldiers stationed at the Umuahia Army Base.
