Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, declared that Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Director at Binance, will face the full force of the law despite his escape from Nigerian custody. Anjarwalla, accused in an ongoing investigation into Binance’s activities, managed to flee the country, prompting a pursuit by Interpol, as confirmed by Idris.
The Office of the National Security Adviser corroborated Anjarwalla’s flight, citing collaborative efforts with international partners to locate and apprehend him swiftly. The statement highlighted Anjarwalla’s alleged use of a smuggled passport to leave Nigeria, prompting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his escape.
Anjarwalla, a British and Kenyan national serving as Binance’s Africa regional manager, was under a 14-day remand order by a Nigerian court before his escape. The Nigerian government, along with global counterparts, has been probing money laundering and terrorism financing activities on the Binance platform. Anjarwalla was slated to reappear in court on April 4, 2024, before his escape derailed judicial proceedings.
