The Imo State Police Command has successfully apprehended three individuals involved in robbery activities, particularly phone snatching at gunpoint.
Among the suspects arrested were 23-year-old Elijah Chigemezu, known for his specialization in phone theft, 27-year-old John Chukwudi, and 32-year-old Chibeze Tasie. The arrests were made possible by the diligent efforts of the Nekede Divisional Headquarters operatives through intelligence-led operations and thorough investigations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the successful operation that led to the apprehension of these suspects underscores the commitment of the command to reducing crime levels in the state.
John Chukwudi, one of the arrested suspects, was found in possession of a locally made pistol and live cartridges during his arrest. He confessed to being a member of the black axe confraternity cult group and disclosed that the firearm was provided to him by a syndicate member named Ugochukwu Ndubuisi, also known as Dimzi Gate, who is currently on the run.
Elijah Chigemezu, hailing from Ezzamgbo in Ebonyi State, was caught red-handed on August 11, 2024, while robbing a young man of his phone and belongings at gunpoint along Cluster Road, Naze. He was swiftly arrested following a distress call, and a locally made gun was recovered from him. Chigemezu admitted to the crime during his interrogation.
In the case of Chibeze Tasie, his arrest at Naze was a result of thorough investigations into motorcycle snatching incidents in Nekede.
Tasie confessed to conspiring with an accomplice named Ndubisi, who is currently evading authorities, to steal motorcycles from unsuspecting riders in the Nekede area .
