Osogbo, Nigeria — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Anti-Corruption Community Development Service (CDS) Group have launched an initiative aimed at tackling corruption through youth engagement in Osun State.
The collaboration was marked by an Anti-Corruption Essay Competition held for secondary school students in Osogbo, the state capital.
The competition, themed “The Impact of Corruption on Nation Building,” featured students showcasing their understanding of corruption’s effects and proposing solutions to its challenges.
Oluwole Abdulqudus from Government Technical College, Osogbo, emerged as the winner with a score of 56%, while Adekahunsi Samson Temidayo from L.A. Adeniji Grammar School, Aiyetoro, and Uthman Habeebah from Christ Grammar School, Osogbo, tied for the first runner-up position with 53% each.
In a statement during the event, the ICPC spokesperson emphasized Osun State’s reputation for integrity, describing it as the land of *“Omoluabi”*—a concept that represents virtue and good character. He urged the students to uphold the state’s values and serve as exemplary ambassadors in the future.
The organizers pledged to extend the program to all local government areas in Osun State, reinforcing their commitment to zero tolerance for corruption.
During the prize presentation, the NYSC Zonal Coordinator applauded the participating schools for their efforts and announced plans for the next edition of the competition, which will take place in Obokun Local Government in the coming weeks. Winners received substantial prizes, while the runners-up were also recognized for their exceptional performances.
The initiative underscores the critical role of education and youth engagement in fostering accountability and promoting a corruption-free society.
