Ibadan’s ‘White Chief,’ Raymond Zard, Passes Away at 86

Chief Raymond Zard, the Babalaje of Ibadanland and Chairman of Zard Group of Companies, has passed away at the age of 86.

Zard, a prominent industrialist and philanthropist, owned Zartech Farms, Kopek Construction Limited, Vina International Limited, Ibadan International School, and Sweetco Foods Limited. He reportedly died in The Netherlands on Sunday.

While the details surrounding his death remain unclear, tributes have begun pouring in from across Nigeria.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, expressed his condolences, describing Zard’s death as a significant loss for both Ibadanland and the nation.

“Chief Zard exhibited exceptional leadership and vision throughout his life,” Alli stated. “His conglomerate, encompassing several companies in Nigeria, showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to economic development.”

Alli highlighted Zard’s lasting impact on Nigeria’s industrial sector and noted his esteemed position as a chief in Ibadan. He praised Zard’s commitment to cultural and social advancement, recognizing him as a symbol of progress and selfless service.

“As we mourn his loss, we must also celebrate his life and legacy,” Alli added. “Chief Zard’s numerous contributions to the business world and our society will continue to inspire future generations. His memory will remain a symbol of excellence and benevolence.”

Senator Alli extended his sympathies to Zard’s family, friends, and associates, praying for Almighty God’s comfort and the eternal rest of Zard’s soul.
