New Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, has made further clarification on a new captain of the national team, saying it was not his responsibility to pick one for the team.
While the current team captain, Ahmed Musa, is currently clubless and is not expected to play any further international football, his assistant, William Troost-Ekong, has captained the Super Eagles in most of their games in the last couple of years.
Finidi, however, said he will allow the players decide who will lead them.
“It’s not my responsibility (to pick a captain), it’s the responsibility of the team,” he said during his media tour.
“It’s not my responsibility (to pick a captain), it’s the responsibility of the team.”
“People said Sunday Oliseh picked his captain and Finidi George should not do same.
“The players will choose the person they are comfortable with.
“They will be them to decide who wears the captain’s arm band.”
William Ekong has been the Super Eagles stand-in captain in the absence of Ahmed Musa, while Kenneth Omeruo is now the most senior international still in the fold.
