Warri, Nigeria — High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom and husband of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has broken his silence on the ongoing feud between his wife and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, revealing that he once met Akpabio to address concerns over the alleged harassment of his spouse.
In a personally signed statement released on Saturday night, Chief Uduaghan explained that his decision to speak was driven by the need to refocus attention on the serious underlying issues rather than the unnecessary sentiments being stirred.
He disclosed that his wife, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, had confided in him about the challenges she was facing under Akpabio’s leadership. Concerned about her ordeal, he sought a peaceful resolution by meeting the Senate President directly.
“Initially, I chose to remain silent on the ongoing dispute between my wife and the Senate President. However, recent developments have made it imperative for me to address the matter. The focus should be on the serious allegations at hand, not on distractions fueled by unnecessary sentiments,” Uduaghan stated.
He reaffirmed his wife’s integrity and commitment to her legislative duties, highlighting the overwhelming support she enjoys from her constituents. “My wife was elected because of the love, trust, and confidence of her people. She remains dedicated to providing quality representation to her district and the nation at large. She is a devoted wife, and the bond we share is strong and unwavering,” he emphasized.
Speaking on his meeting with Akpabio, Uduaghan described his approach as one of maturity and responsibility, consistent with his role as a traditional leader. “As someone who upholds core family values and respects constituted authority, I personally met with the Senate President and respectfully urged him to extend the dignity and respect my wife deserves. We had an understanding to resolve the matter amicably,” he revealed.
Despite this meeting, he lamented that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan continues to experience distress, raising fresh concerns about the situation.
Uduaghan reaffirmed his unwavering support for his wife, stressing the strength of their marriage. “I have absolute faith in my wife’s loyalty and remain fully committed to our marriage, which is built on love, compassion, and mutual respect. She is my greatest joy, and I would never trade her for anything,” he declared.
He concluded by calling on the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Senate President Akpabio to ensure his wife is treated with the respect and dignity she rightfully deserves while awaiting the resolution of the legal proceedings.
