House of Reps Moves to Approve N288bn Additional Budget for FCTA

The House of Representatives has initiated the process to approve an additional N288 billion supplementary statutory budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

During a plenary session, the FCT Supplementary Statutory Appropriations Bill for 2024 was passed through its first and second readings. The bill was introduced following President Bola Tinubu’s recent request for an additional budget to fund critical projects within the FCT.

Out of the total sum, N31.1 billion is earmarked for overhead costs, while the remaining N256.9 billion is allocated for capital projects. The bill has now been referred to the Committee on FCT, chaired by Hon. Aliyu Muktar Betara, for further review and legislative action.

Betara emphasized the urgency of passing the budget, noting that it is essential for the implementation of key development projects in the nation’s capital. He also highlighted that many of the projects had already been included in the 2024 statutory budget approved by the National Assembly, with only two new items introduced.

The Committee is expected to present its report on the supplementary budget during Thursday’s plenary, aiming for a swift passage to ensure that critical projects can commence promptly.
