Abuja, Nigeria — The House of Representatives has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the rollout of Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Policy, with a focus on assessing its operational impact, regulatory integrity, and alignment with national sustainability goals.
The move was officially announced during the inauguration of the House Ad Hoc Committee on the CNG Policy, held in Abuja. Hon. Ahmadu Jaha, who chairs the committee, described the initiative as a vital step in Nigeria’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient energy sources, in line with evolving global standards.
Jaha emphasized the importance of fair and inclusive access to CNG infrastructure across all regions of the country, warning that no segment of the population should be left behind in the energy shift. “Our review will ensure that every Nigerian is carried along in this critical transition,” he said.
As part of its mandate, the committee plans to engage with a wide array of stakeholders, including federal regulatory bodies, international oil companies (IOCs), and industry experts, to collect data and analyze progress made so far under the current implementation framework.
In addition to field assessments and policy reviews, the committee will undertake a rigorous evaluation of the legal and regulatory structures governing the CNG initiative. Findings from the investigation are expected to guide potential legislative interventions aimed at improving the policy’s effectiveness and accessibility.
Chairman Jaha commended the leadership of the House for entrusting the committee with the assignment, stating that it comprises experienced lawmakers committed to transparency, due diligence, and actionable results.
